Creating Organic Growth on Spotify

Game Review: Skytar Lacked Storytelling

I’ve done a lot of reading on Spotify and how it works to help artists. I wanted to share a piece of information that I learned which I think any artist can use to their advantage. So, the question is. How do you create organic growth on Spotify?

So what will happen, is you’ll start on about five or six playlist, and Spotify will then learn who you are–and who likes your music. They're going to start testing your song to people, and then they'll take your song and put it on, say, ten people's discover weekly playlists. And if it works, they’ll put it in front of more people. 50 people. Then 100, as long as the song is performing well with the listeners. It’s all about the listener.

Spotify doesn't really care about your music as music as they care about the people listening to your music. So once they figure out that works, then Spotify will organically start putting your music in those discover weekly playlists. I love my discover weekly playlist. It’s great to find new music and artists that I am more likely than not going to like and promote. Because Spotify knows what I like (more or less) and their engineers make a lot of money for that reason.
